Lightweight High Strength Magnesium Alloys for High Energy Radiation Shielding
In the Materials Design and Prototyping Laboratory in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, I am working on the development of a magnesium-based alloy with the goal of maximizing radiation shielding on aircrafts and spacecrafts. This will hopefully help reduce passengers' and astronauts' risk of cancer from exposure to high energy secondary neutrons. This alloy will be tested on a CubeSat called RadSat when it launches in 2021. I am also working on designing a high gain antenna for this satellite during an internship program this summer at NASA Goddard.
