Research Description

Autonomous Image Classification and Processing in Space
Downlinking images taken in space can take a very long time, and a significant amount of resources can be wasted by downloading undesired images. My project while working in CHREC will be to develop a CubeSat-tailored computationally efficient application suite to process and classify images based on their content (such as brightness, cloud/land/water percentage, and specific landform features such as mountains) as well as to handle image compression and deletion to preserve storage space.
