Research Description

Toolkit for Illustration of Procedures in Surgery
TIPS (Toolkit for Illustration of Procedures in Surgery) involves some low cost hardware and advanced software that together create an immersive simulation of various surgeries. This is very important because many surgery education residencies do not have any surgery simulations due to the extremely high cost, and those that do have limited resources and so they learn by observing/helping in the OR on actual surgeries. Also, for some surgeries there do not even exist simulations to be purchased. The ability to teach surgeons on simulations rather than live patients is needed. With TIPS the only costs would be a haptic feedback device which can be used with all simulations, and the cost of the software.
