"I got involved in research because I have always been interested in figuring out how the world works and why things work the way they do. I love that doing research gives one the opportunity to figure out the answers to these questions, and to add to our collective understanding of the world."

Research Description

The Effects of Fatty Acid Salts on Bed Bugs
My project deals with testing fatty acid salt solutions for their efficacy in killing bed bugs (Cimex lectularius), specifically focusing on dish soap, which contains many different fatty acid salts, in comparison with individual soap salt solutions (potassium laurate and sodium laurate). I will be testing 3 hypotheses, dealing with whether the method of application affects efficacy of soap salt solutions, whether a combination of soap salts in a solution is more effective than solutions with individual salts, and whether soap salt solutions alone will have equal mortality to combinations of soap salts and essential oils.
