"I got involved with research because I want to tell stories that have never told and spread light on issues that tend to get ignored. Furthermore, as cliche as it sounds, if we do not learn from history, then we are doomed to repeat it, so I want to learn and I want to help others learn sot that we do not make the same mistakes again."

Research Description

The Desegregation of Cypress Gardens and Silver Springs
My project is on the desegregation and integration of Cypress Gardens and Silver Springs which were two popular tourist destinations in Florida. Having been founded long before the arrival of Disney, Universal, or Sea-world, these locations bore witness too some of the most trying times in American History. Furthermore, while the segregation of beaches and swimming pools is often written about, I would like to explore these other leisure options for African American. Also, I would like to explore their roles within these tourist attractions as workers or entertainers.
