"Dr. McKenna was a guest presenter for my research seminar class. The presentation she gave on gene therapy using viral vectors just blew my mind. Ever since that presentation I was determined to get into her research lab, now here I am going into my 7th semester with the McKenna lab!"

Research Description

The aim of this research is to determine the environmental conditions that allows for adeno-associated viruses’ (AAVs) viral protein 1 unique region (VP1u) to externalize, without the denaturing of the AAV viral capsid.
