Social Isolation in Rural Adolescents
My USP research project is studying social isolation in rural adolescents. The rural adolescent population is constantly faced with a disengaging environment that does not provide many activities for social interaction. My study aims to 1) review and describe the evidence in social isolation in the rural population and 2) to analyze recorded interviews performed with adolescents in the rural community. I will be evaluating several rural adolescents’ interviews that live in rural areas in the state of Florida. The methodology I will be using for this project is descriptive pilot study. One of the real world applications for my project is to show the necessity of active engagement with society during adolescence. Another one of my real world applications is showing how familial and peer relationships actively influence feelings of isolation in rural adolescents.
