"Ever since I was a Freshman I have wanted to becoming involved with research. I am interested in both Political Science and Telecommunications, and it is through the University Scholars Program that I can apply the knowledge I have acquired in both fields into a single project. I think research is somewhat of a journey. It’s daunting, exciting, and at the end, it has an impact on the individual and maybe even the greater society. "

Research Description

Social Media's Impact on Social Movement Success
This study will examine the relationship between social media coverage and the success of various social movements. Scholars have suggested several ways in which social media has influenced collective action, including its role in disseminating information; however, it is also argued that the networks that are created through platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are weak and unable to last for extended periods of time. Through this research, I hope to gain insight into this new media platform that has changed the way the world interacts and I hope to understand its mobilizing capacities.
