Research Description

Function of Noncoding RNA Produced from the Beta Globin Locus Control Region
I will be trying to determine the function of noncoding RNA produced from the Beta globin Locus Control Region. The first step in determining this will be to knock down the ncRNA by shRNA, or another form of post-transcriptional silencing, to determine the effect this has on downstream gene regulation. From here, other techniques such as Western blots or ChIP experiments will be used to explore the functional mechanisms associated with these ncRNA.
