"I applied to the Scholars program in order to deepen my understanding of research and academia. I hope to learn fundamental physical concepts that I would not otherwise be exposed to in the general curriculum of chemical engineering."

Liquid Bridge Experiments
A liquid bridge is a column of fluid suspended between two contact areas and surrounded by a different immiscible fluid phase. Providing that the densities of the fluid forming the bridge and the surrounding phase are equal (thus removing the affects of gravity), a cylindrical liquid bridge will break up at a height equal to its circumference (called the Plateau limit). We will be exploring various techniques to increase the length of the liquid bridge beyond this critical point.
