"I applied to the Scholars program in order to fund my senior thesis research, and in the hopes of attempting to publish my research. I am excited to work among talented and dedicated individuals and I know that this program will further my academic goals. For this year, my academic goals encompass applying and getting acceptance from law schools, writing my senior thesis, keeping my GPA high, and further improving relations with teachers while learning professional behavior."
My primary academic interest is environmental policy and conservation. I am fascinated by all forms of nature and I have always felt a connection to the beaches and coasts. I hope to learn more about current environmental issues while discovering ways to improve our policies. My career goal is to eventually practice environmental law.

Ecological Certification in Costa Rica
This project focuses on ecological certification programs in Costa Rica and looks at the interaction of these policies and practices with the people and culture of the country. Research was conducted during study at EARTH University in Limon, Costa Rica and through interviews with citizens of the country during July 2011. Costa Rica is known for its rich environment and comprehensive policies; hence the country was an ideal location for research. The goal of this project is to determine the success level of current environmental policy in Costa Rica, and how policy can be improved and expanded to protect the environment in other regions of the world.
